Our History

Cookeville Art Studio and Gallery, originally named “Cumberland Arts Society” has a rich history dating back to 1961. The founder of the Cumberland Art Society was Reba Bacon, who was an associate professor of elementary education at Tennessee Tech University. On February 26, 1961, the non-profit organization was started with 68 charter members. The purpose of the organization was to promote art in the Upper Cumberland area, by offering qualified instruction through workshops, classes, seminars, and field trips.
